A few words about Akis Tsatalios

Akis Tsatalios passed away 20 years ago at the age of 33, while he was at the Piraeus swimming pool for a championship match of the NOV women's team against the National team, where he was coaching his players. Unfortunately, his heart betrayed him, freezing the entire Greek aquatics team. width=

"A child of Vouliagmeni", Akis Tsatalios started at the academies of Vouliagmeni at the age of 10, played in the youth teams, to progress to the A1 men's team where he played until 1996. His successes as a member of the N.O.B. men's team include winning the championship in 1991 and the Greek Cup in 1996.

At the age of 23, he took over as the head of the women's water polo infrastructure at the National Olympic Committee, both junior and girls. Under his guidance, his players achieved numerous successes, while at the same time he succeeded in having his athletes compete with the National Team, winning the 1997 World Championship and the 2001 European Championship.

Later, as coach of the A1 Women's team of Vouliagmeni, he celebrated with his team the conquest of the Greek Championship. He was the first man to lead them to the first – of many that followed – European final in its history.
