Update regarding a Covid-19 case in V.N.C.

On Tuesday, August 18, late at night, the Management of the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club was informed that there was a confirmed case of Covid-19 in an adult within its facilities.

For the safety and protection of the health of members, athletes, employees and public health in general, V.N.C. came into collaboration with a scientific team of the National Organization for Public Health to receive the necessary instructions and immediately took the following actions:

  • Tracing close contacts of the confirmed case (definition of close contact see https://eody.gov.gr/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/covid-19-diaxeirisi-epafon.pdf)
  • Relevant information for close contacts.
  • Recommendation for isolation and home confinement for a period of 14 days and consultation with their doctor.
  • Summer Camp operations suspended for precautionary reasons.
  • Intensification of the disinfection of the Group's premises, with a specialized external team for microbial disinfection in all indoor and outdoor areas of V.N.C. More specifically, disinfections are carried out in offices, the clinic, boats, toilets, changing rooms, gym, reception area, playground, outdoor areas as well as the entire external surface of the swimming pool and its stands. The above intensified disinfections operate in addition to the daily and permanent disinfection of the group's hotel equipment, turnstiles, staff work areas, toilets and changing rooms, as well as all points of use and frequent contact within the facilities.
  • Recommendation to both athletic and administrative staff to remain under home confinement after the end of their vacation for 5 days and return to work upon presentation of a negative Covid-19 test.
  • Continuation of temperature checks of all those entering the group.
  • Conducting identification at the entrance with absolute rigor and a high sense of responsibility by the competent personnel, so that immediate and valid tracing is possible if necessary.
  • Following this, a strict ban on entry for those who are not entitled to it.
  • Informing Members, athletes and employees regarding the incident

We want to make it clear that if you have not been traced as a close contact and we have not informed you about this as of Tuesday 18.08 evening, then there is no risk of Covid-19 infection from this specific incident.

The health of our people is our primary priority.

It is a fact that the measures we implemented may be considered excessively strict and intensive, in relation to what is stipulated in the EODY protocol. It is true that we took more measures than perhaps were necessary.

However, we consider it our duty to do everything possible so that we can all be and feel safe. However, in order to achieve this lofty goal during the unprecedented and challenging period we are going through, the cooperation of all of us is essential. The sense of individual responsibility, cooperation and good mood of all of us was and remains the key to the sustainability of our beloved Group.

Immediate and accurate tracing is the most effective way to stop the transmission of the disease and subsequently protect public health and the safety of all of us.

We conclude our update with the strong recommendation of the National Institute of Public Health (EODY) to those returning from their holidays, and especially those who have visited places with a high epidemiological burden (Mykonos, Paros, Antiparos, Halkidiki, Poros), to remain outside the Group for a period of five days. Ideally, home isolation and a Covid-19 test on the 5th day are recommended.

We are all in this together. We are all careful.
