Today is a historic day for the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club and for the Vouliagmeni region in general, since the dream of a modern swimming pool - a model for Greek sports - is now becoming a reality.
The President of V.N.C., Ms. Stella Lazarou, attended the Attica Region, where the relevant study was presented to the Governor of Attica, Mr. Georgios Patoulis, for a modern swimming pool at the V.N.C. facilities and received his substantial support in the implementation of the project.
The Vouliagmeni Nautical Club, the historic nautical club operating since 1937, has produced a multitude of athletes in all seven aquatic sports in which it is active. In particular, the Laimos swimming pool has hosted important sporting events, both national and international, while it has operated as an Olympic training center during the Olympic Games that our country hosted.
Since the distant 1966 when, inspired by civil engineer and V.N.C. member Yannis Tzelatis, a 25-meter open swimming pool was constructed, to be replaced later in 1977 by the current 50-meter swimming pool, the Laimos swimming pool has functioned as a nursery for aquatics, producing champions who reach the highest podium to represent the colors of the blue and white.
The vision of President Ms. Lazarou and the members of the Board of Directors is to achieve the regeneration of the V.N.C. swimming pool, in the location it is located today, creating facilities that are a model for modern sports.
Faithful to this vision, it undertook, with the contribution of the team of the Managing Director of the project management company, Mr. Fanis Karagiannis, the creation of special studies for the renovation and static restoration of the swimming pool, as well as the improvement of the auxiliary facilities and the surrounding area of the stands. In addition, an important part of the project is the energy upgrade of all the electromechanical equipment, with the aim of creating a modern, safe, functional and environmentally friendly sports infrastructure. Finally, the interventions will be in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural landscape, highlighting the timeless role of the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club facilities as an emblematic landmark of the wider area of the coastal front of Attica.
The project studies are in a maturation phase and are ready to be submitted to the competent services of the Region for approval so that it can proceed to the implementation phase.
The President of the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club, Stella Lazarou-Tiga, warmly thanked the Regional Governor for his willingness to assist in an important project which, as she stated, will contribute to the spatial and architectural upgrading of the wider area.
The Regional Governor of Attica noted: "Supporting mass sports is one of our priorities and in this context we continue to invest in upgrading sports infrastructure throughout Attica. In this direction and our will to contribute in practice so that this historic sports group and Vouliagmeni can acquire a modern and functional swimming pool, of high standards, which will be enjoyed by young and old."
