From Thursday, March 31st to Sunday, April 3rd, the first ever water polo tournament was organized with great success. “BEBIDES Alexis Staikopoulos” at the Laimos swimming pool for athletes born in 2009 and later.
V.N.C. gave the tournament the name of the late athlete and coach Alexis Staikopoulos, wanting to pay tribute to his memory, with a sport that he himself loved and began practicing in 1988. In the context of the awards, V.N.C. honored Alexis' wife as well as his brother, Giorgos, while the cry of "Alexis" that was heard in the Laimos swimming pool by the players of Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni who faced off in the final was particularly moving.
The “BEBIDES Alexis Staikopoulos” tournament may have been organized for the first time this year, but it proved that it has the potential to become established in the water polo sports scene. The four-day program included rising water polo players from 10 teams Mini Children's category:
- Panathinaikos A.O.
- Chania S.O.
- Panionios G.S.S.
- General Assembly of Ilioupoli
- Olympiacos S.F.P.
- N.O. Patron
- AOP Faliro
- N.O. Patron
- Nafplio S.O.
- and of course, the home team Vouliagmeni.
Adhering to the health protocol measures against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, with a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm, the spectators enjoyed strong games, a special spectacle and intense matches in a summer atmosphere.
